Myanmar Dialogues: A Seminar on Border Trade and Migrant Workers in the Wake of the Current Situation

          On February 11, 2021, Associate Professor Dr. Thanya Sangkaphanthanon, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, presided over an academic discussion panel entitled “Myanmar Dialogues: A Seminar on Border Trade and Migrant Workers in the Wake of the Current Situation", which was organized by the Faculty of Humanities in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences at Naresuan University. The Faculty of Humanities had invited guest speakers and experts in Myanmar Studies as listed below:

          - Mr. Kritsana Chotsut, a lecturer from the Department of Eastern Languages (Myanmar Studies), Faculty of Humanities, Naresuan University

          - Mr. Thanapat Dejpawuthikul, a Myanmar Studies expert from Walailak University

          - Mr. Adisorn Kerdmongkon, Civil Society Sector from the Migrant Working Group

          - Mr. Pongchai Tan-arunchai, Business Sector, Investment and Trade, Thailand-Burma (Online participant)

          - Professor Michael W. Charney, a special guest speaker who is an expert in history and Myanmar Studies from School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (Online participant)

           - Moderator: Dr. Athit Pongpanich, a Deputy Dean for Research and International Relations, Faculty of Social Sciences, Naresuan University

           - Interpreter: Assistant Professor Dr. Usa Padket, a lecturer from the Department of English Language, Faculty of Humanities, Naresuan University

           Since the situation in Myanmar may cause consequences in many areas. These include: border trade with Thailand, transportation between Thailand and Myanmar, Thai business investment in Myanmar, and the migrant labor market. The participants shared and exchanged their ideas on the political situation in Myanmar and suggested that the world keeps an eye on the country and its effect on other ASEAN nations.
